Past Study Group Events

The Study Group grew out of a Royal Musical Association Study Day (in association with the British Society of Aesthetics) on the topic of Music and Philosophy, held at King’s College London on 20 February 2010. In addition to official MPSG events, the Study Group also collaborates with other societies, to increase the number of opportunities for scholars to engage with one another in our inherently interdisciplinary field of inquiry.

The Musical Humanism of the Renaissance and Its Legacy (International Conference, 2016)
2-4 June 2016, Warwick’s Palazzo Papafava, Venice
This event was organized in collaboration with the University of Warwick.
This conference will investigated Renaissance conceptions of the connection between music and mind, their origins, and how they were ultimately developed into our modern notion of music as an expressive art.
