About the conference:

The conference “Performative Languages of Emotion” is an attempt to discuss emotions in the performative arts as a dialogue between theory and praxis, art and scholarship. The goal is to strengthen the dialogue betweenscholarship and art-making and to test out new forms of interdisciplinary research via an interrogation of the “Performative Languages of Emotion.” To what extent does knowledge of emotions (their specific qualities, their forms of expression, and the processes of their transmission) differ in scholarly work and in the arts? And where can we find similarities in thinking about the Languages of Emotions?

With Jürgen Flimm, Jens Schroth, Gabriele Brandstetter, David J. Levin, Clemens Risi, Reinhild Hoffmann, Sandra Leupold, Sigrid T’Hooft, Lindy Annis, Jochen Sandig, Hermann Kappelhoff, Lydia Goehr, Albrecht Riethmüller, Matthew Jesse Jackson etc.

An international conference organized by the Cluster of Excellence “Languages of Emotion” and the Center for Movement Research of Freie Universität Berlin, in cooperation with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden im Schillertheater. Supported by the journal “Opera Quarterly” (Oxford  University Press), the University of Chicago, and the CIC (Center for
International Cooperation) of Freie Universität Berlin.
