E

The first half of Southbank Centre’s “The Rest Is Noise”, year-long festival of 20th-century music goes on sale on Thursday 29 November. From January to December 2013 we will be exploring the history, art, politics and science of the 20th century and their impact on composers and their work.

Through the first six weekends, speakers including historians, politicians, scientists, authors and artists give both in-depth and bite size talks to guide you through the wider context of the musical landscape as it changed forever. Day and weekend passes include access to films, discussions, debates and activities throughout the day. There is also a programme of concerts throughout the year that chronologically tracks the music of this turbulent century.

The festival opens on 19 and 20 January with “Here Comes The 20thCentury”, a weekend focusing on the early 1900s as artists and thinkers respond to the cataclysmic changes around them.

Book for any of the first six weekends before 31 January 2013 and get an early bird discount with day passes just £12 each and weekend passes £20.
